Who are we?

We are Manchester Students’ Union, the biggest SU in the country, supporting over 40,000 students throughout their time at university. We help to make student life the best it can be by supporting students to campaign for change, creating opportunities to meet new people, providing employment opportunities, providing advice and support and being a safe place on campus.  

We are a values-centred organisation that employs around 90 permanent, full-time members of staff. We recruit a wide range of roles throughout the year within all our departments from our Commercial team operating Manchester Academy Venues, 13 Media, Bar 532 & Kitchen and Corridor Coffee to our Student Activities, Student Engagement, Marketing and Communications, Finance, HR and Facilities teams. Our team of around 400 part-time, studying staff are instrumental in providing to support to all departments as well as leading major projects like Student Angels. About the role 

Are you a creative communicator with a passion for digital marketing? As Email Campaigns Lead, you will play a key role in enhancing student engagement at Manchester Students’ Union by delivering high-impact email campaigns that inform and inspire.

As Email Campaigns Lead, you will be responsible for planning, writing, and executing email marketing campaigns that enhance communication with students and stakeholders. Working closely with the Social Media & Communications Manager, you’ll use tools like Mailchimp and Google Analytics to optimise engagement, increase email open and click-through rates, and support the broader communications strategy at UMSU.

This role is perfect for someone with strong copywriting skills, digital marketing experience, and a keen eye for analytics who wants to make a real impact on student communications.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute engaging email campaigns to inform and connect students with SU activities and services.
  • Maintain and optimise a centralised email content calendar to improve campaign coordination.
  • Segment audiences based on interests, event participation, and other key data points to personalise communications.
  • Analyse campaign performance using Mailchimp and Google Analytics, identifying insights to enhance future campaigns.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure messaging aligns with UMSU’s brand and strategic goals.
  • Contribute to increasing email open rates (target: +5% YoY) and click rates (target: +2% YoY).

What we’re looking for

  • Excellent copywriting skills, including crafting subject lines and calls to action.
  • Strong data analysis skills—the ability to interpret and act on campaign metrics.
  • High attention to detail, ensuring email content is proofread and properly formatted.
  • A problem-solving mindset, identifying areas for improvement and suggesting solutions.
  • An ability to work independently, take initiative, and contribute ideas.

Details

Wage: £12.60 per hour + holiday pay 

Contract: Zero Hours, Fixed-Term until 31st July 2025

Hours: approximately 10 per week 

Eligibility: open to applications eligible to work in the UK at the start of employment and a current student at UoM, MMU or UoS graduating in December 2025 or later
