We are Manchester Students’ Union, the biggest SU in the country, supporting over 40,000 students throughout their time at university. We help to make student life the best it can be by supporting students to campaign for change, creating opportunities to meet new people, providing employment opportunities, providing advice and support and being a safe place on campus.

Our team of around 400 part-time, studying staff are instrumental in providing to support to all departments as well as leading major projects like Student Angels. About the role

As a Student Facilities Assistant, you will contribute to the smooth running of the Union’s facilities on a daily basis and be the point of contact for students, visitors & staff using these facilities. You'll also ensure the monitoring of the Union’s health & safety, fire and hygiene procedures. This role will have shifts ranging from morning to evening, night work and weekend work.

Your main duties will include;

  • performing porter duties such as setting up equipment, handling deliveries and setting up rooms for events
  • providing excellent customer service for all users of the Union's facilities
  • keep, use and issue keys
  • clean building areas and surrounds - removing waste, overseeing recycling etc
  • directing members of the public

The majority of the working day will be spent on your feet working within various locations around the Students’ Union which will include manual handling for various events and recycling duties. We w put students at the heart of everything we provide for them during there events even it is a finding a cable for audio or setting up tables and chairs for a meeting. You will be asked to help in small repairs and H & S issues to keep compliance but given guidance throughout this.

This role is open to students enrolled at the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Salford during the 2024-25 academic year with the right to work in the UK from the start of employment. While this is a zero-hour role, there will be in the 10 hours per week available for the successful applicant.

Wage: £12 per hour + holiday pay

Contract: Zero Hours, Fixed-Term until 31st July 2025, Night, Evening, Day & Weekend Work

Hours: approximately 10 hours per week
